As the owner of a few venues now, I can not express how important is is to understand your budget as soon as you get started.
Every vendor will ask the budget question. For the most of us "venues", we are genuinely looking for the financial understanding on how to better serve you and not trying to "pick your pockets dry". Understanding the budget is the most vital part of working together to create your wedding day dream experience.
Every wedding event should not cost the same amount. No two clients want exactly the same product, services, or guest count.
My greatest desire, after 20 plus years in the industry, is to challenge myself to come in under budget. It's my dirty little pleasure to come back to a client with pricing that is less that what was considered to be needed while not compromising on the details that make the wedding special and unique (as long as realistic accounting has been applied from the beginning).
Don't get me wrong I have had those weddings that far exceed their original budget. But these run away trains are always my least favorite because it typically means that I'm dealing with a client that is also a little out of control.
Brides remember... "we", most of us, got into the wedding business because we are artistic, enjoy the rush of meeting deadlines, and the joy of getting it right noted by the smile upon your face!
